Dr. Lian Parry is an Australian-trained Clinical Psychologist and Advanced Level Schema Therapist (Individuals), currently based in Ottawa, Ontario, where she works with adults and couples in private practice.
Dr. Parry has experience with a range of client presentations including anxiety, depression, adjustment issues, grief and loss, workplace stress and relationship difficulties, among others. She has a particular interest in posttraumatic stress reactions and has provided psychological services to current and former-serving members of the military, refugees and asylum seekers in immigration detention, and survivors of sexual assault and childhood trauma. Dr. Parry has broad international experience having lived and worked across Australia, Europe, South America and Southeast Asia, and she enjoys collaborating with people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
Although Dr. Parry draws upon various therapeutic approaches depending on individual client needs and goals (for example, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Gottman Couples Counselling Method), Schema Therapy has become a cornerstone of Dr. Parry’s clinical work. Unlike some other approaches, Schema Therapy goes beyond the symptoms and seeks to better understand and address underlying causes of distress and the unhelpful coping patterns that often sustain suffering. By working on the relationship with self through a range of experiential techniques and corrective emotional experiences, Schema Therapy can facilitate change and healing at a deeper level, for many people.
